Our mission in Year 1 is to establish a strong and supportive learning environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. We aim to build on the early learning skills acquired in EYFS and ensure children have a strong foundation in all areas of the curriculum including English, maths, social , emotional and physical development, ensuring they are confident and prepared for their educational journey ahead.
We place a strong emphasis on early reading and giving every child the early skills through our rigorous phonics programme using Read Write Inc. English and Maths are the cornerstones of our curriculum to ensure children have the essential skills in reading, writing, and mathematics using resources such as White Rose Maths and Literacy Shed and through a variety of fun and engaging teaching methods. We aim to make lessons practical and hands on, using a range of equipment and resources, including real life objects. We seek to instil a lifelong passion for reading and a strong understanding of number concepts, that will enable children to continue on their educational journey successfully.
In addition to core subjects, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum enabling creativity and problem solving. Art, Design and Technology and Physical Education are taught in creative and exciting ways providing a variety of opportunities for children to explore and develop. Religious Education is the foundation of our ethos and values and provides opportunities for children to enquire, question and challenge. Our Personal, Social, Health and Emotional education also prepares children for real life situations and contributes to our holistic curriculum. Together, this encourages children to become resilient, reflective, and resourceful learners.

We aim to create an environment where everyone can achieve through collaborative learning, hands-on experiences, and a focus on positive behaviour and relationships, we aim to cultivate a lifelong love of learning and prepare our children for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
