Proud to be a Department for Education Early Adopter
St John Henry Newman Catholic Primary School is proud to have been selected as one of the first wave of schools nationally to trial the Department for Education's Free Breakfast Club Scheme, which began in April 2025.
Having opened in September 2022, our school has grown rapidly and had 370 pupils on roll when the national pilot commenced. As a growing two-form entry Catholic primary school, we have embraced new opportunities from the very beginning, continually adapting our provision to meet the needs of our children and families. Becoming an early adopter of the Free Breakfast Club Scheme was a natural extension of this commitment.

Our decision to participate in the national trial was inspired by our Catholic ethos and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. We believe every child should have the best possible start to the school day, regardless of their circumstances.

By providing a healthy breakfast and a calm, welcoming start to the day, we aim to ensure every child is ready to learn while also offering practical support to our families.
Supporting Our School Community
Since joining the national trial, the Breakfast Club has become an important part of school life. It provides children with a positive start to the day, opportunities to socialise with friends, and a nutritious breakfast before lessons begin.
We are delighted to be playing a leading role in shaping this important national initiative and are proud that our experiences have contributed to informing the future rollout of free breakfast provision across England.
